Our employee returned to work after an injury with a lifting restriction that basically makes him unable to work in his position. What do we do?

If the employee has a medical restriction that doesn’t allow him to lift anything over a certain number of pounds, that restriction needs to be observed.  If lifting over that restriction is an essential function of that position, assess if there is another position that could work for this employee—or if some combination of positions could be blended to create a position that is feasible both for your company and to meet the restrictions.  But there are instances where an employer cannot accommodate a restriction due to the nature of the job.
