Training makes it clear to employees that your company takes issues of discrimination and harassment seriously.  A written policy in a handbook is a good starting place, but investing in a training session and having employees engage and ask questions puts a stronger emphasis on the values expressed in the policies.  Training can also be targeted specifically to managers, who have a higher degree of responsibility to be responsive to any conduct that could be considered discriminatory or harassing.
